Mount Sophia Tower House is a historic colonial building constructed in 1892 by the Crane Brothers' Architect. This double-storied house, made of concrete and wood with iron fittings, stands proudly on Mount Sophia near the city. Originally a residential district for the middle and upper classes, Mount Sophia was named after Sir Stamford Raffles' wife, Lady Sophia Hull Raffles. The house was acquired by the Methodist Church in 1932 and became part of Methodist Girls' School, earning the nickname 'Tower House'. The Singapore government acquired the property in 1998, and after restoration, it was leased for use as a Montessori pre-education nursery known as House on the Hill.
